Culture & Leisure

With easy access to the countryside and pretty riverside walks along the River Stort which flows through the town, there are plenty of places to enjoy the outdoors.

The town is fortunate to have many parks and nature reserves including Southern Country Park and Castle Park in the town centre, the site of the historic Waytemore Castle mound, where you will find play areas and a splash park.

For those that want to get active, Grange Paddocks is the main leisure centre, due to be completely transformed in a multi-million pound redevelopment. Other fitness attractions include the Nuffield Health Gym, as well as cricket, rugby and golf clubs.

The main venue for the arts is the town centre arts complex, which houses a 300-seat theatre, cinema, art gallery and museum. There is also the six-screen Empire Cinema.

Southern Country Park

Ideal for family days out, bike rides and walking, nearby Southern Country Park has a variety of distinct areas that accommodate an array of different pastimes. There is a balancing pond for fishing and duck feeding, an enclosed picnic area and large grassed areas for informal play and kite flying, plus an exciting older children’s play area and dog agility training area. Wildlife habitats and features such as woodland, grazing areas, chalk banks, streams and small natural ponds also surround this enriched country park.
